Questions

About the score and valuations.

What is the Saleability Score?
A twelve question self assessment that rates how dependent your business is on you, across the six operational areas buyers look at: owner dependency, systems and SOPs, automation, management visibility, key people, and transferability. It gives you a score out of 100 and shows which areas to fix first.
Is this a business valuation?
No. It does not estimate what your business is worth. Valuations are done by brokers, accountants and valuers using your financials. The Saleability Score looks at the operational side: how easily a buyer could take over and run the business without you. That affects how attractive the business is to buyers, which is why it is worth fixing before you get a valuation.
How do buyers value a small business in Australia?
Most small and medium businesses are valued on a multiple of their maintainable earnings, usually EBIT or EBITDA adjusted for the owner’s wage. The multiple itself moves with risk. A business that depends heavily on the owner, has key-person risk or cannot show clean operating records is riskier for a buyer, so it is harder to sell and the terms are often worse. Ask your broker or accountant for an actual valuation.
