Home/Industries/AI for Tradies
Trades and construction

You are on the tools all day. The office work is not getting done.

Not because you are disorganised. Because you are one person and you cannot be in a ceiling and on the phone at the same time. AI for tradies runs the office side: answering, qualifying, chasing and booking, on the weeks you are flat out.

The problem

Nobody decided to stop following up. It just stopped.

Every trade business we audit has the same shape of problem, and it has nothing to do with how good the work is or how hard the owner works.

A trade business has a structural conflict built into it. The person who is best placed to answer the phone, qualify the job and follow up the quote is the person who is physically on site with their hands full. There is no version of the day where both happen properly, so the office work loses, every time, and it loses hardest on the weeks when there is the most of it.

So the calls ring out. The enquiry that came in at 8pm waits until Tuesday. The quote goes out on Thursday night and nothing else ever happens to it. Meanwhile the business is spending money on advertising to produce more enquiries that will meet the same fate.

This is what an audit of a trade business actually looks like when you stop guessing and go and count. Not a lead problem. A pipeline stuffed with work that was already paid for and never worked.

What it handles

The five things that have to happen to every enquiry.

Every trade business reliably does one of these. The rest depend on somebody having a spare ten minutes, which is why they stop.

📞

Answering

Calls, forms and messages get a real response inside a minute, at any hour. A call that rings out gets a text back before the customer has finished dialling the next tradie.

💬

Qualifying

What is the job, where, how urgent, and when do they need it. Asked properly, written down in plain words, and filed against the right record.

🔄

Chasing

Quotes get a real sequence, not one hopeful message. It runs for weeks, carries proof and reviews, and stops instantly when the customer answers either way.

📅

Booking

Into your actual calendar with confirmations and reminders, so you stop driving across town to houses where nobody is home.

Reviews

Asked for on the day the job finished, when the customer is happiest, rather than three weeks later when it feels awkward to ask.

📊

Counting

Which enquiries came from where, what they cost and which became jobs, so you know which advertising to turn up and which to switch off.

The mechanics are the same. The questions are not.

A burst pipe and a commercial switchboard upgrade need completely different handling, so we build the qualifying path per trade rather than shipping one generic script.

Proof

One trade business, counted properly.

Decorative concrete manufacturer, South East Queensland

837 enquiries in the CRM. Seven of them had been won.

This business was not short of leads. It was short of follow-up. We pulled every record out of their CRM and classified all 837 opportunities. 241 quotes had been sent and never chased, worth $776,688, sitting an average of 222 days untouched. Another 302 enquiries had never moved past the first stage at all, some for five months. Across the whole pipeline, only 42 records had been touched in the previous fortnight.

So we built the layer that does the chasing. Missed calls now get a text back inside a minute. An AI qualifier works the reply, finds out what the job actually is, writes it into the CRM and hands a written brief to a human. It never quotes and it never books. The quote backlog gets a real sequence carrying case studies and reviews instead of silence, capped daily so it goes out over a fortnight rather than in one blast. Alongside it runs a live report that attributes every inbound call to the tracking number that produced it, so the ad spend is finally answerable.

The rules

What we will and will not build.

It never

  • Gives a price, a rate, a range or a ballpark.
  • Claims to be you or anyone in your business.
  • Texts a do-not-contact record, or a landline.
  • Sends outside the hours you set.
  • Handles a complaint or a warranty claim.

It always

  • Ends every conversation with a human involved.
  • Hands over on anger, confusion or anything unclear.
  • Honours STOP before the model sees the message.
  • Caps sends so a backlog goes out over a fortnight.
  • Writes what it learned into your records.
Questions

What tradies ask us.

What is AI for tradies?
It is AI applied to the office side of a trade business rather than to the trade itself. Nothing about it touches the work on site. It answers the phone when you cannot, texts back the calls that rang out, works out what the job is and writes it down, chases the quotes you have sent, books jobs into your calendar, and asks for reviews when work is finished. The point is that these things happen on your busiest weeks, which are exactly the weeks they currently stop happening.
What can AI actually do for a trade business today?
The reliable, boring things. Respond to an enquiry in under a minute at any hour. Ask the qualifying questions and record the answers. Follow up a quote seven times over three weeks without getting bored or embarrassed. Book into a calendar and send reminders. Ask for a review at the right moment. Write a call into a CRM as a structured record. What it cannot do is price a job, make a licensed judgement, or handle a genuinely upset customer, and we build it so it does not try.
Which trades does this work for?
Any trade where enquiries arrive by phone while the owner is unavailable, and where quotes go out and go quiet. In practice that is plumbers, electricians, builders, landscapers, concreters, roofers, painters, HVAC and flooring. The mechanics are the same across all of them. What changes is the qualifying questions and what counts as an emergency.
Is this going to sound like a robot to my customers?
That is the risk, and it is why we test against real scenarios before a customer sees anything. In practice the messages are short and plain, they ask one thing at a time, and they hand to a human the moment the conversation goes anywhere unusual. The failure mode we design against is not sounding artificial, it is being unhelpful, because a customer will forgive a system that is obviously automated and will not forgive one that wastes their time.
How much time does it actually save?
The honest answer is that time saved is the wrong measure for most trade businesses, because the work it does is work you were not doing at all. You were not following up those quotes. The gain is not an hour back in your evening, it is the jobs that come from work that previously did not happen. Where it does save real time is enquiry intake and the review chase.
Do I need to be good with technology?
No. If you can read a text message you can run this. Once it is live, most of it is invisible to you: it works, and you see qualified jobs appear with the details already written down. The parts you interact with are your existing phone and your existing calendar.
What does it cost?
It depends on how many pieces you need, so we do not publish one number. Start with the free audit, which will tell you what your missed calls and unchased quotes are currently worth per month. That figure is what decides whether this is worth doing, and for some businesses it will not be.
